Back to the eighties! At NYFW in February, we saw old trends resurrected by some of the biggest names in fashion. Now, we’re seeing similar looks on industry insiders.
The 1980s have long been a style era many love to hate. But we straight up love these looks.
Big shoulders and flashy prints are making a comeback. At Fashion Week, Max Mara and Alexander Wang (among others) showed power suits. Not your mother’s old work clothes. They’re cooler. More streamlined, and somehow more classic. Dynasty meets the modern era.
Vivian Tam and Capucci were two designers that went all out at New York Fashion Week, with voluminous sleeves and eye-catching metallic looks.
Marc Jacobs’ 2017 Resort collection is super gorgeous and super retro. It’s funky, and anything but subtle. Highlights include embellished denim jackets, glitzy MTV logo sweatshirts, and plenty of leopard print. Very Madonna. Also very Marc Jacobs.
This Spring, the 80s revival is finally going mainstream. Ruffles and shoulder baring tops are great trends to test the waters with. Quirky pins are everywhere too. Edgy online brands like Dolls Kill and Missguided are stocking plenty of
80s style pieces for a going out look. Crimped hair is also a thing again. We might as well embrace it—this trend seems to be here to stay. What do you say, style mavens? Is the 80s edit totally bomb?
